CSK beat KKR by 18 runs in a thriller, reach top of the points table. CSK batted first and put up a massive total of 220 runs on the board. KKR in their reply were struggling after the powerplay when they were 31-5. But what followed was an epic comeback from the KKR lower middle order batsmen. Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Pat Cummins made crucial runs to take the match extremely close. But CSK won it in the end as KKR were all out for 202 runs.

Man of the Match: Faf du Plessis

KKR captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to field first. This was due to the high amount of dew later in the second innings which makes it very difficult to defend runs. KKR made 2 changes to their lineup: Sunil Narine for Shakib al Hasan and Kamlesh Nagarkoti for Harbhajan Singh. CSK also made a single change: Lungi Ngidi for Dwayne Bravo.

Ruturaj Gaikwad returns to form with a solid 64 off just 42 balls

Ruturaj Gaikwad, after a string of low scores, made a fabulous return to form. He hit some beautiful shots and some powerful shots in his knock. He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes in the innings. The CSK openers gave them a rock-solid start. The foundation was just perfect for CSK to post a huge score on the board.

Faf du Plessis remains not out on 95, off just 60 balls.

Faf du Plessis hit an unbeaten 95 off just 60 balls. He carried his bat through the innings. He kept hitting his shots while on the other end CSK’s big hitters made small cameos. Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni hit eventful cameos to help CSK reach a huge total of 220 runs.

Deepak Chahar goes through KKR’s top order, picks up 4 wickets

KKR began their chase in a horrible manner. Deepak Chahar, their go-to powerplay bowler, picked up 4 KKR top-order wickets to seemingly just kill the chase. KKR were at one point 31-5 and everyone thought that they would lose by a huge margin.

Pat Cummins remains unbeaten on 66 off just 34 balls, KKR all out for 202

But then came Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik. Russell hit the ball very well and hit 6 huge sixes en route to his knock of 54 off just 22 balls. Dinesh Karthik on the other hand played some sensible cricket and hit 40 off just 24. When both of these were dismissed, no one gave a chance to KKR. 

But then Pat Cummins played a blinder. He hit 30 runs in a Sam Curran over to completely instill fear in the CSK dugout. 20 were needed off the last over but Pat Cummins eventually ran out of partners. KKR were bowled out for 202. But this was an epic thriller and this match will be remembered for KKR’s comeback.

Faf du Plessis won the Man of the Match for his 95 not out off just 60 deliveries. He hit 9 fours and 4 sixes in his knock.
