CSK Won By 6 Wickets, Kolkata Knight Riders Virtually Out Of The Ipl 2020 .
Kolkata Knight Riders have been virtually knocked out of the IPL. This comes after their defeat against the Chennai Super Kings, who played the perfect spoilsport for KKR. KKR has an awful net rate and even a win in their last league game may not be enough to see them in the playoffs.

KKR’s loss makes Mumbai Indians the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs.

PERFORMERS OF THE DAY

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS Bat: Nitish Rana 87(61) Shubman Gill 26(17) Bowl: Cummins 4-0-31-2 Chakravarthy 4-0-20-2
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS Bat: Ruturaj Gaikwad 72(53) Ravindra Jadeja 31*(11) Bowl: Ngidi 4-0-34-2 Ravindra Jadeja 3-0-20-1

AS IT HAPPENED

CSK won the toss and chose to field first. Putting the already nervous KKR batting into the pressure of putting runs on board seemed to be the rationale. KKR had just one change with Rinku Singh coming in for Prasidh Krishna. CSK, on the other hand had three changes – Watson, Ngidi and Karn coming in for Faf, Tahir and Monu.

First 50+ Opening Stand for KKR
Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill put up a 53 run opening stand, the first 50+ opening stand for KKR this season. They gave KKR a settled start and seared through the powerplay without letting a wicket fall. KKR were 48/0 after 6 overs.

Rana – Another Almost KKR Centurion!

Nitish Rana came all guns blazing against the CSK bowlers. Not only did he make 87 brilliant runs, he also had a strike rate of 142. He got out in the 18th over with just 13 shy of what would have been the first KKR centurion after McCullum’s century in the IPL opener. Earlier, Tripathi and Morgan too missed out on centuries this season. KKR has just one centurion in their 13
year long IPL journey!

Finishing Well in the Absence of Russell

Russell’s hollow with the bat at the death was clearly felt by KKR in the previous matches. But KKR finished well today in the absence of Russell. They made 66 runs in the last 5 overs which saw them break the 170 run mark. Apart from Rana, it was Karthik who provided the impetus in the end with 21 off 10 balls. KKR finished on 172-5 after 20 overs.

Watson Fails and Gaikwad Slams back-to-back Half Centuries
Watson, who came in place of Faf wasn’t able to impress much and scored just 14 runs and took 19 balls for it. It was the youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad who took the onus of the innings upon himself. He scored 72 off 53 balls, his second consecutive 50+ score of the season.

Pat Cummins has been subjected to criticism for his inability to win games with the ball. He put all those criticisms to rest today. He took the key wickets of Gaikwad and Rayudu which changed the match in KKR’s favour. Also, he gave away just 4 runs in the 18th over of the match.

Ferguson, on the other hand, cost the match for KKR. He leaked 54 runs in his 4 overs and never leveraged the pressure put by other bowlers.

Jadeja Finishing it in Style
Just when it looked like CSK had no way back into the game, Ravindra Jadeja stepped in and played a breathtaking innings. He smashed 31 off 11 deliveries to seal the game for CSK. Here is how his 11 balls panned out – 0, 1, 1, 1, 4, 2(No Ball), 6, 4, 0, 6, 6. CSK Won By 6 Wickets .
