DC beat CSK by 7 wickets, Pant wins debut match as captain. CSK put up a good total on the board batting first. But dew was a huge factor today and the Delhi Capitals’ openers batted extremely well. They had a 138 run opening partnership which all but ended CSK’s hopes of winning their opening match.

Man of the Match: Shikhar Dhawan

This was Rishabh Pant’s first match as captain of the Delhi Capitals. He won the toss and chose to field first. This was an obvious decision considering the amount of dew here at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Moeen Ali debuted for CSK while Chris Woakes debuted for DC.

Suresh Raina scores a fifty in his comeback match, gets run-out on 54

CSK lost early wickets and were in some trouble when they were 7-2. But Suresh Raina, making his comeback for CSK after missing an entire season, played a valuable knock. He scored 54 off just 36 balls before he was run-out. Moeen Ali also played a crucial innings of 36 off 24 deliveries.

Curran and Jadeja finish well for CSK, help the team reach 188

CSK then lost a few wickets including that of captain MS Dhoni who was dismissed for a duck. But Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja provided them the necessary flourish in the death overs. This late attack helped CSK reach a respectable total of 188 runs. For DC, the pick of the bowlers was Avesh Khan who picked up 2 wickets giving just 23 runs in his 4 overs.

Shaw scores 72 off just 38, carries his Vijay Hazare Trophy form into IPL.

The Delhi Capitals’ openers shared a fantastic 138 run opening stand. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw looked absolutely in top form. Shaw in particular was middling almost every ball and scored at a strike rate of 189. He had a dismal IPL 2020. But he carried forward his Vijay Hazare form where he was the top run-scorer.

Shikhar Dhawan top scores with 85 off 54 deliveries

His partner Shikhar Dhawan also played a valuable knock of 85. When he was dismissed, DC needed just 22 more runs to win and the match was very well over. It was fitting that the debutant captain Rishabh Pant scored the winning boundary. DC have announced themselves of being the favorites in a quite firm way. 

Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged the Man of the match for his 85 off just 54 deliveries. He scored 10 boundaries and also hit 2 sixes.
