India record biggest win vs England, beating them by 317 runs, level series 1-1. There was much chatter around the pitch. And also about how toss was very critical for this match. But India denied all such claims and scored more than 600 runs in the 2 innings combined. Ravichandran Ashwin was the star performer for India. He put up a superb all-round show on his home ground.

Man of the Match – Ravichandran Ashwin

On Day 1 when Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss, he rightly elected to bat first. The pitch was such that it started spinning from the first day. So it was better to put up runs on the board before the pitch started deteriorating. India got off to a decent start but also lost a few wickets. Rohit Sharma played a brilliant counter attacking innings. He made his first 80 runs off just 78 balls.

After lunch, in the middle session, India consolidated and did not lose even a single wicket in that session. Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma made a superb 162 run partnership. Once they were dismissed, Rishabh Pant started playing his shots. 

India were bowled out on the next day, with Rishabh being left with no partners at the other end. He struck a well-made half-century. For England, Moeen Ali took 4 wickets and Olly Stone took 3.

The Indian bowlers led by Ravichandran Ashwin wrecked havoc on England in the first innings. Ashwin took his 29th 5 wicket haul in tests. Debutant Axar Patel was also very accurate with his line and length.He took the prized wicket of Joe Root. Ishant Sharma also took 2 wickets.

After picking up 5 wickets in the first innings, Ravi Ashwin also scored a century in the second. His superb all round show earned him the man of the match award. Skipper Virat Kohli also scored a well made half-century after getting out for a duck in the first innings.

So England were set a huge target of 481 runs with more than 2 days of play left. This time it was Axar Patel who was among wickets. He picked up 5 wickets in his maiden test match. Ravichandran Ashwin also picked up 3 more, so he had a total of 8 wickets in the match. This was India record biggest win in terms of runs against England.
