Openers provide foundation for Afghanistan

Afghani openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Javed Ahmedi never felt uncomfortable in front of the new ball. They posted a 120 run opening stand. The first breakthrough was given by spinner Andy McBrine. He continued to pick up wickets from one end. But the other was held by Rahmanullah who made a well- deserved century. McBrine eventually completed his 1 st five-for in his 50 th ODI. Ireland tried 8 bowlers out of which 4 went wicketless. Rashid Khan 55(30) and Najibullah 29(43) gave the finishing touch to the innings as AFG finished 287/9 in

Ireland felt short by 16 runs

Afghanistan got an early breakthrough as Naveen traps Kevin O Brien in front. Most of the batsmen got starts but couldn’t capitalize on them. There was a promising 88 run stand between Lorcan Tucker 83(96) and Curtis Campher 39(53). But the later was removed by Mujeeb who turned out to be the most economic bowler for his side. Simi Singh 23(20) tried to get close but wickets kept falling. All Afghani bowlers excluding Omarzai went with at least a wicket in their pockets. Eventually the ended on 271/9 falling just 16 runs short of the target.

Afghanistan now lead the 3-match series with 1-0. They have also added 10 points to World Cup Super League which is a part of 2023 WC qualification process.
