India beat Australia in the Boxing Day test here at MCG. This is a great comeback after the debacle that happened in Adelaide where the entire team was bowled out for 36. This win is special and will be memorable because India are playing without their test regulars Kohli, Ishant, Shami, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar.

1st innings Australia   195/10 (72.3 overs). M Labuschagne 48(132), T Head 38(92), J Bumrah 4/56, R Ashwin 3/35.
India  326/10 (115.1 overs). A Rahane 112(223), R Jadeja 57(159), N Lyon 3/72, M Starc 3/78.

2nd innings Australia  200/10 (103.1 overs). C Green 45(146), M Wade 40(137), M Siraj 3/37, R Jadeja 2/28.
India 70/2 (15.5 overs ). S Gill 35(36), A Rahane 27(40), M Starc 1/20, P Cummins 1/22.

Man of the Match : Ajinkya Rahane

After losing the toss, captain Ajinkya Rahane did not put a foot wrong in the entire game. The Indian bowlers bowled out Australia on Day 1 itself. The bowling placements and field changes by Rahane were on point and praised by all. India lost Mayank Agarwal early in their first innings. But debutant Shubman Gill showed great composure and scored a decent 45.

The skipper Rahane scored a second ton at MCG, thus becoming only the third Indian Captain to do so. Rahane’s innings was surely one of the best by an Indian captain in overseas conditions. He was ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja, whose recent batting prowess has made him quite a reliable all-rounder nowadays. Thus with an all round effort India secured a hugely important mighty first innings lead of 131 runs.

In Australia’s second innings, the other debutant, Mohammed Siraj impressed everybody. He took 3 crucial wickets with his consistent line, length and pace. India lost Umesh Yadav quite early in the innings due to an injury. Thus they were left with just 4 genuine bowling options. There were 2 wickets each from Bumrah, Jadeja and Ashwin. With another all round effort India managed to restrict Australia and got a target of just 70 runs. India beat Australia by 8 wickets .

Gill batted superbly once again and captain Rahane also remained not out. Both these players took the team home and handed India a morale-boosting and memorable win in Australia.
