IPL 2020 Final : Mumbai Indians Win 5th Title

Mumbai Indians are crowned the champions of the Dream11 IPL 2020. They defeated Delhi Capitals in the finals to become only the second team after Chennai Super Kings to successfully defend an IPL title.

IPL 2020 FINAL PERFORMERS OF THE DAY

MUMBAI INDIANS Bat: Rohit Sharma 68(51) Ishan Kishan 33(19) Bowl: Trent Boult 4-0-30-3 Nathan Coulter-Nile 4-0-29-2 DELHI CAPITALS Bat: Shreyas Iyer 65(50) Rishabh Pant 56(38) Bowl: Anrich Nortje 2.4-0-25-2 Kagiso Rabada 3-0-32-1

PLAYER OF THE MATCH : Trent Boult

AS IT HAPPENED

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first. It seemed like a good idea to put runs on the board in a high pressure match. Nevertheless, MI was always going to be a tough opposition to outscore. DC had no changes to their side whereas MI had one change – Jayant Yadav in for Rahul Chahar.

The first bowl of the match by Boult got rid of in-form Stoinis. The powerplay kept getting worse for DC from there. Boult took out Rahane too. And Jayant Yadav took Dhawan’s wicket to push DC on the backfoot in the powerplay. DC were 41-3 after 6 overs.

Iyer And Pant’s Partnership Script DC’s Comeback
The two middle order batsmen of DC, Iyer and Pant steadied the ship after early hiccups. They put on a 96 run partnership to bring Delhi back into the game. DC scored 77 runs from overs 7 to 15 and they looked set for a 170+ score.

Despite Pant and Buyer’s partnership, DC were able to score just 38 runs in the last 5 overs. Iyer slowed up considerably. Some brilliant death bowling by Bumrah and group ensured that MI had to chase just 157 in the second innings.

Until tonight, Rohit Sharma had been off-color this season. In an important chase in the finals, it was important for the experienced players to step up and Rohit came good. He took the attack to the DC bowlers along with De Kock. MI were 61-1 after 6 overs.

The two young batsmen, Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan came at number 3 and 4 respectively. They made sure that the required run rate was always under control. Regular boundaries saw Mumbai Indians easily chase down the target with 8 balls to spare.

The Fitting Champions

Mumbai Indians have dominated this year’s IPL. Delhi looked in form, lost touch, somehow came into the finals. RCB and SRH made it into the playoffs despite strings of losses. However, if there was any team that looked the best and played the best at all stages of the tournament, it was Mumbai Indians. They defeated the number 2 on table, Delhi Capitals 4 times in the course
of this season which goes to show their dominance and calibre.
