IPL 2021 kickstarts with a blockbuster opening match between MI vs RCB.
The cricket festival as we all say is back again in just 5 months. In the first match itself we have the defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The MI paltan have just been dominant in the past few years while RCB are still searching for their first title.
Mumbai Indians being as strong as ever
We must say MI has the smartest minds in their support staff. They saw a weak link in the spin department and instantly bought in an experienced campaigner in the form of Piyush Chawla in the squad. They have their core retained and would most probably play the same eleven as of the last time we saw them. We might see an extra spinner considering the spin friendly wicket in Chennai. A new face in the pace attack is always on the cards with Adam Milne’s inclusion. Form is also not a major concern for them as most of their top order batsmen have come after a sensational performance against England.
The first match losing curse might be the only thing which will haunt them. But again, this team has proved that no curse can stop their dominance (remember the odd year curse?). Overall, they are a team to beat and would like to start their campaign with a win over a motivated camp of RCB.
Bangalore on their way to a first title win?
The RCB squad is a mix of young guns as well as experienced stalwarts. They look like a promising team with some quality additions to the squad. Inclusion of Maxwell is a big boost for them as they lacked a reliable power hitter in the middle order but his form could be the cause of concern for the management. They too have some good spinners in the form of Adam Zampa, Chahal as well as Washington who may cause problem to the MI captain as we have seen that Rohit struggles against spin early on.
The pace department is a bit inexperienced against a quality batting lineup but on their day, any team can fall prey to the wrath of Saini and Siraj. As always, the batting will revolve around Virat and ABD and the team will have a lot of expectations from them. A good start in the tournament will be a confidence boost for all the young guys and a head start to clinch the trophy. Though this is just the first match of the tournament, RCB is definitely one of the contenders for the top 4 slots.
Any team batting first would look to score big and very big considering the batting firepower each team has. Though MI has an upper edge in the bowling department we never know what the match leads us to.
