India loses 1st T20I against England, poor batting costs them the match. It was not a start India would want in this series. But on the flip side England would be on cloud nine after this comfortable win. A low scoring game courtesy some rash shots played by Indian batsmen, at the end went towards England. India ended with a mere 124/7 in 20 overs and England chased it down in 15.3 overs.

Brief Scores:

India : 124/7 (20 Overs) Shreyas Iyer 67(48), Pant 21(23), Archer 3/23, Rashid 1/14.

England: 130/2 (15.3 Overs) Jason Roy 49(32), Buttler 28(24), Sundar 1/10, Chahal 1/44.

Man of the Match: Jofra Archer

Pacers strike early and restrict India to a low score

Both teams had a completely opposite team selection. India went in with 2 pacers and 3 spinners while England had 3 pacers in their 11. Clearly it paid off for England as some early blows and India were on the backfoot straight away. Rohit was rested for this match but both openers KL 1(4) and Dhawan 4(12) looked rusty and couldn’t fire. Kohli was dismissed for a consecutive duck which made things worse for his team.

India made just 22 runs in the power play loosing 3 wickets. Shreyas Iyer 67(48) made a fine half century and proved to be the sole leader taking India to a respectable total. Rishabh Pant 21(23) also played some shots but at the end was caught in the deep. Hardik Pandya 19(21) also gave a small contribution but didn’t finish the game as he likes to do.

The English seamers were really steaming in bowling consistently at 145 kmph. Archer got 3 wickets while Wood, Jordan and Stokes got 1 each. Adil Rashid on the other hand got the priced wicket of Virat Kohli and eventually India was restricted to 124 runs.

England chases comfortably, gains 0-1 lead in the series

It was always going to be a tough job for Indian bowlers to defend that score. A 72-run opening partnership between Roy 49(32) and Buttler 28(24) did more than half of the job done for England. The No. 1 T20 batsman David Malan 24(20) and Bairstow 26(17) finished of the game within no time and gave India no chance to make a comeback. Chahal got 1 wicket but was expensive as he gave 44 runs in his 4 overs. Sundar was the other bowler among the wickets chart claiming the wicket of Jason Roy who fell 1 run short of his half century.India loses 1st T20I against England.

This is a long 5 match series and India has a plethora of chances to make a comeback as we saw in test series when they were down one match. The form of their top order is a concern but definitely they will rejuvenate before the next match.
