Semi Final 2: Jaffna Stallions beat Dambulla Viiking by 37 runs

In the 2nd Semi Final of LPL 2020, Jaffna Stallions defeated Dambulla Viikings by 37 runs and registered a spot in the finals of LPL 2020.

Johnson Charles helps Stallions get to a formidable total.

In the 2nd Semi final of LPL 2020 Dambulla Viiking’s skipper won the toss and decided to bowl first. But the Stallions go off to a good start as their openers set up a 68 runs opening partnership. Avishka Fernando 39(26) was the first one to be dismissed. Even after the fall of first wicket Johnson Charles kept attacking the bowlers. But there was not much of support from the other batters. Asalanka 10(8), T Perera 7(3), Shoaib Malik 1(2) C de Silva 6(4) and others couldn’t support Johnson Charles.

Eventually he got out on 76(56) in the 16th over. Jaffna Stallions finished their 20 overs at 165/9. For the Viiking’s M Pushpakumara picked 3, while R Mendis, L Kumara and Anwar Ali picked 1 each.

Chasing 166, Viiking’s didn’t have the best of starts. They were placed at 18/2 at the end of 3rd over. Samit Patel 10(10) and Angelo Perera 5(4) got out early. But the senior pro’s N Dickwella and U Tharanga held the innings together and kept the score board ticking. But well set N Dickwella 29(18) lost his wicket to Asalanka. Up next Dasun Shanaka 5(6), Samiullah Shinwari 4(4) and Anwar Ali 5(9) didn’t score big.

U Tharanga 33(39) too got out in the 14th over. At this stage Viiking’s were placed at 96/7. Ramesh Mendis 26(10) came in and hit few boundaries to give his team some hopes. But that wasn’t sufficient as the Viiking’s lost all wickets at the score of 128. For the Stallions W Hasaranga was the star with the ball as he picked 3/15. With this win the Stallions have booked a spot in the finals of LPL 2020. Meanwhile Johnson Charles was picked as Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
