MAN OF THE MATCH : DEAN ELGAR
MAN OF THE SERIES : DEAN ELGAR

Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss on a nice dry wicket on Day 1 at Wanderers. He chose to bat first. Although he was dismissed cheaply, his opening partner Kusal Perera played a short but brilliant counter attacking innings. He top-scored 60 off just 67 balls to set the tone.

But none of the other Sri Lankan batsmen got going and Anrich Nortje bowled superbly to claim 6 wickets. Well supported by other bowlers, SA was able to restrict the visitors to just 157.

In South Africa’s first innings, after Markram got out, Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen stitched a long and fruitful partnership. They had a partnership of 184 runs and this literally took the game away from the Sri Lankans. Elgar compiled a well made century. Due to some late blows by Vishwa Fernando, the hosts were restricted to 302.

In Sri Lanka’s second innings, their captain Karunaratne showed great resolve. He batted brilliantly for his 103. His knock consisted of 19 fours. Ngidi and Sipamla were the wreckers in chief for the hosts as they bowled out Lankans for 211.
The hosts just had a target of 67 and they were able to chase this without breaking much sweat.

South African opener Dean Elgar was adjudged both the awards for his superb century in the match. He also scored the most runs in the series. So he was rightly given man of the series award as well.South Africa thrash Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to clean sweep the visitors.
