Double Ton from Williamson helps kewis score big in 1st innings

It was the 1st test match of the series being played at Hamilton. West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bowl first. Holder’s decision came good too as Kewis lost Will Young 5(11) early. But Kane Williamson and Tom Latham then set up a huge partnership. This pair batted for around 50 overs as Latham 86(184) got out to Roach. Later Ross Taylor 38(68), Henry Nicholls 7(33), Tom Bludell 14(63) all gave few handy contributions. But it was Jamieson 51(64) who scored a 51 and assisted Williamson to up the run rate. On the other hand Williamson scored 251(412) before getting out to Joseph. NZ later declared at 519/7. Both Roach and Gabriel picked 3 each for their side.

Chasing 519 West Indies never got themselves going. As they kept loosing wickets at regular stage and were bundled out for 138/10. K Braithwaite 21(92), John Cambell 26(73), Blackwood 23(48), Holder 25(48) all got the starts but couldn’t score big like Williamson. The others like DM Bravo, Brooks and other tailenders got out on single digit scores. Nobody stayed for long as West Indies couldn’t even score the 150 run mark. Southee picked 4/35 while Jamison and Wagner picked 2 each.

Blackwood and Joseph fight but couldn’t save their side from a innings loss

West Indies were made to follow on in the 2nd innings. But once again there was not much of fight apart from few batsman. Jermaine Blackwood 104(141) was the only batsman who hit a ton and played a classy inning. Alzarri Joseph 86(125) too contributed with few big hits. But the rest of them disappointed once again. At one stage West Indies were struggling at 89/6. But Blackwood and Joseph took the score above 200. Brathwaite 10(23), Bravo 12(19), Chase 6(19), Brooks 2(4) none delivered, when required. Skipper Jason Holder too disappointed with 8(15).

For New Zealand Neil Wagner picked 4/66. While Jamieson picked 2 and rest of the bowlers picked 1 each. New Zealand eventually won the 1st match at Hamilton by an innings and 134 runs. Kane Williamson grabbed the MOTM award for his classy double ton.
